These apples didn’t fall far

People who know me know that I don’t share.  It’s totally overrated.  I remember when I was little and someone was telling me how sharing is the right thing to do, and I kept thinking of how absurd that was.  If I share, that means I have less and why would I want that?  And you know I’m talking about food, right?  That’s a given.

But being a parent changes all that, doesn’t it?  You teach them to share with each other and praise them when they do.  You share with them, and surprisingly, I find myself going without to supply the demand from little mochis saying “pleath” and “peesh.”  I remember my mom used to go without and acted as though she genuinely was okay with it.  Now I know what she feels like.  There is something so great about giving the little ones what you so enjoy.  And when I give them a snack and they automatically offer some to the other without hesitation, they are enjoying some of that, too.

But believe me, this sharing thing is a hard thing to do when it comes to the perfect Japanese pear, a Mrs. Field’s milk chocolate chip cookie, or the last slice of pie.
